A first for the Thunder: boos
Fans’ frustration In midst of ninth straight loss, Thunder fans can’t hold back their discontent

With 2:50 remaining in the third quarter Wednesday night, Thunder fans no longer could contain their frustration.
So they did the unthinkable. They booed.

fake paul, yukon: Actually, I am the one who has connected the dots (really not that difficult, it is all there for anyone who wants to see it can). I have laid everything out so those that haven't done any research can see what the facts are. Do find it interesting you didn't dispute any of my post, but rather decided to attack the messenger.
Obviously we see this differently. Please explain which dots you don't think I have been able to connect?
It is those who don't use their brains that are the worrisome ones, they accept whatever spin, half-truths and in some cases out-right lies that comes out of the Mayor's office & Chamber about the whole mess. Unfortunately, enough voters (a small minority of OKC residents/taxpayers) were fooled or uninformed about the realities of the Ford tax increase and now the City (taxpayers) is on the hook for this for the next 15 to 30 years (the length of the lease). With no way to pay for it.

Somebody mentioned it was Clay who wore the Sonics panties...we'll have to check with TDawg on that one....
paul, yukon - Nov 22, 2008 at 4:26 am
I bet you ask any of the Sonic fans do they truly wish ill fate to the ex-Sonic team: no. Its more at the owner who bulled his way into getting a team on OK. Any city who had a guy come into there town and rape them would hold ill fate toward them. You OK's must admit, why the heck would he want an NBA trophy that was never won by the city the team is in. EGO, Jerseys of players never playing in OK to hang from the rafters? ENVY! Just an outsider looking in.....I bet Clay has the Thunder dancers wearing Sonic panties beneath there Thunder-wear.

Fake Paul/TDawg....the slurpee machine is spilling over, wipe your lips, will ya???
paul, yukon - Nov 21, 2008 at 2:35 pm
OSU and now Thunder basketball fans will NOT tolerate laziness on defense.
Allowing a team to score 42 points in 12 minutes is NOT coaching. It is LAZINESS on the players' part.
A, oklahoma city - Nov 21, 2008 at 11:50 am
Larry, we all gave up on you getting it, along time ago. You are just too slow and dim witted to connect the dots. That's OK, we're not mad at you....we just wish you would stay down in the shallow end where you belong...I am a highly educated man and you son, are the class dunce....now run along and play...

"First, Paul, I know this is difficult with only an 8th grade hillbilly education, but the possessive form is "your" not "you're." I'd let it go, but you make the same mistake in every post."
THANK YOU, nameless one for pointing out this ruination of the English language. The "fake Paul" is pathetic in being unable to use words as intended. Anybody who has been following these blogs knows that the fake Paul is an illiterate and a product of Okies 47th ranked education system, whereas I was educated in a state that ranks toward #1 and know the difference between "your" and "you're"....

Tdawg, Seattle wrote: "You need to go back and study the history of this more closely..."
Excellent idea!
What exactly is the "arena problem"? The Key was designed and built to the EXACT specifications of the team and NBA. It was called by Commish Stern a model NBA arena and state of the art. Then about 6 years later the team want a remodel. What happened in those 6 years, did the Key change? No, the NBA business model changed where they needed to get as much revenue from as many sources as they possibly can (high end restaurants, bars, concessions, merchandise etc., etc.)
It goes back to the sharing thing, they can't stand the idea that they aren't getting more of the money that people are spending in the surrounding area before and after the game. They want you from birth to grave, so to speak.
The "problem" isn't with the arena itself... the Key has the same problem the Ford has in that regard. Yes, the Key has the smallest seating capacity of any NBA arena, but was it always that way? Or did it become the smallest as newer, bigger arenas opened? Even if it has always been the smallest, it was built that way because the team wanted it that way.
Interesting to note that Bennett's new $500 million arena he demanded in Seattle would have had more seating capacity than the Key, but smaller than the Ford. Can certainly understand if someone questioned why a bigger arena was needed when they couldn't keep the smaller arena filled.
The other "arena problem" was the lease. Because of the broken business model, the NBA isn't real big on sharing revenue (they even want revenue from non-NBA events, held in a building they don't own...they want naming rights to a building they don't own..etc.).

Larry, Oklahoma City - Nov 21, 2008 at 1:10 am
Ran across an article that showed EVERY owner of the Sonics (even if they were losing millions yearly as a team), made up for ALL of the losses and still made a nice net profit when they sold the team.
Of course it helps if you can find a buyer (Bennett) who is willing to pay $100 million more for the team than what it was worth (yet not willing to pay for the improvements that are designed either for the team itself or to "maximize the revenue streams" for the team).
Larry, Oklahoma City - Nov 21, 2008 at 12:43 am
"I'm sorry Mitch, could you please repeat that in English? You know, that language your Oklahoma hillbilly pidgin is loosely based on?"
Sure. I see you and the rest of the usual intellectually challenged mo-rons who have no visible means of employment, since they post on the Disappointment's forum throughout the day, are still occupying this space. I believe you are too obtuse to lose interest in repetitive, mindless drivel.

Brian, Oklahoma City wrote: "Key arena was built in the 60's. Why do you idiots always say it was built a decade ago?"
They keep saying that because that is the fact. Google it. The Key is only about 12 years old (approx double the age of the Ford). The original building (the Coliseum, which was built in the early 1960s) was completely gutted down to the support columns and the roof line. They lowered the floor to add additional seating (since they kept the same roof line, they couldn't go up or out).
The totally rebuilt Key (not just remodeled like the Ford improvements) was about the same age as the Ford when the team started asking for more improvements to be made. Remember the Key was rebuilt to the exact specifications of the team/NBA. Stern called it a state of the art and model NBA arena (I've seen the clip on u-tube).
Stern supported a remodel of the Key and even went to the Washington legislature to lobby for it. Once Bennett bought the team, a remodel was out of the question. It was a new arena or the team moves. Now that the team has moved, Stern says a remodel of the Key will be fine again.
Larry, Oklahoma City - Nov 21, 2008 at 12:20 am
Oh, God, yes heaven forbid anyone should actually boo their own team. Big f-ing deal — your team deserves to be booed. They're the worst team in professional sports. For Pete's sake. You people are ridiculous. Bush league. No surprise there, I guess.
- Nov 20, 2008 at 11:29 pm
First of all, anyone who wasn't at the game has no room to talk. I was there, 7 rows from the floor. There was no booing of the team! The only "boos" were directed towards the refs, who sucked. There were some "ughs" when the kept turning the ball over and over. However they weren't actually booed!!

Sometimes, Cody, the truth hurts. I feel your pain. Courage, my inbred friend. Courage.
- Nov 20, 2008 at 11:02 pm
And just to let you know, the "hillbilly" city I come from outside of Oklahoma City has one of the highest levels of college education in the country. Keep up your delusions if that's what it takes to make you feel good about yourself.
Cody, Norman - Nov 20, 2008 at 11:02 pm
It's the bitter little people like the unnamed person from Seattle reinforce the mostly untrue stereotypes about people from Seattle. How many people with any self-esteem get off by trying to insult other cities? I guess you just can't get over it. It's a crappy deal for all the people who were Sonics fans, but you are flat out childish.
Cody, Norman - Nov 20, 2008 at 11:01 pm
First, Paul, I know this is difficult with only an 8th grade hillbilly education, but the possessive form is "your" not "you're." I'd let it go, but you make the same mistake in every post.
Second, college is not considered in the same league as professional sports anywhere but in backwaters like Oklahoma. That said, there's more to college sports than football, so congrats on the Sooners basketball team making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year. Granted, my Wazzu team got to the Sweet 16, but . . . wait, what was that you were saying about our college teams not being competitive again? Well, geez Paul, now you just don't seem to even know what *you're* talking about.
Third, there is no "Sonics" anymore. And good luck with *your* pipe dream of competing in the NBA anytime in the next decade, assuming the team you are referring to is the Thunder(sucks).
- Nov 20, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Oh yea, slick....you're pathetic teams are going to get better but ours is going to continue to suck. The Sonics have a much better chance to be good in two years than the 'hawks or the M's.
And in the mean time we have college teams playing at the highest level and competing for conference and national titles.
UW and WSU are screwed. There is no reason to believe that they will ever be competetive.
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 10:20 pm
The Sonics must have been the easiest team to buy. Now we know why.
Walter, Edmond - Nov 20, 2008 at 10:05 pm
No Paul, you're experiencing the karma right now. As we said, enjoy.
Granted, Seattle sports are in the pits right now. But it's all cyclical. Our NFL and MLB teams will be good again. We're getting a new Major League Soccer team this year, as well. That should be fun. All of them will regularly draw two to three times the crowds the Thunder(sucks) ever will.
Again, enjoy your god-awful basketball team. With their god-awful name. In your god-awful town. We'll enjoy all of our other major professional sports teams. None of which you will ever have in OKC.
Oh, and go Red Raiders!
-Seattle
- Nov 20, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Thanks Steve and even though they're not winning yet, we're loving it.
It probably helps that our other sports teams are so good. It kind of balances things out.
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Right and all the Seattle area fans are saddled with watching a winning product, since the Blazers are on Comcast Cable approximately 60 times this season in Seattle, not counting ESPN and TNT games that the Blazers will be on. Admittedly I don't get to pay thousands for seasons tickets, over priced concessions, parking, and team shop products, I will leave that to you for your total NBA experience.
Steve, Danville, - Nov 20, 2008 at 9:33 pm
...and to the poster before Steve. OKC got you're crappy basketball team. Who's going to get the rest of your crappy teams?
That place is like a black whole for sports. Every team in Wash. is horrible.
Karma????
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 9:29 pm
That's basicly what they did, Steve.
The Sonics are no more and OKC got the franchise.
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Tdawg, I have heard all of that nonsense before, of the supposed franchises that are struggling, disband or get rid of the one franchise that is the most financially troubled and replace them with the OKC expansion franchise, ya think.
Steve, Danville, - Nov 20, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Dear OKC,
Haha. Hahahaha. Hahahahahahahahaaaaa. HA!
Welcome to the real world. Our crappy NBA team is now your crappy NBA team. Enjoy.
Did you actually think the team moving to Backwater, Oklahoma was going to make them play any better? If so, you're deluded. But then, you choose to live in Oklahoma, so your perception of the world is obviously a little off-kilter, to say the least.
We do hope you win a few more games, though. Sincerely. Just enough to screw up your chances at a good lottery pick. But no more.
Anyway, after you suffer through a few more god-awful seasons like this one and attendance is dwindling and the ownership is complaining and on and on...then let's see how much smack you talk about Seattle, our lack of support for our team, etc., etc.
We wish you nothing but decades of failure and disappointment. You deserve it.
Disrespectfully,
Seattle
- Nov 20, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Steve, expansion was not and is not on the table. There are too many struggling franchises already and none of the owners want their slice of the TV money pie to shrink. You need to go back and study the history of this more closely and see just how much money the Sonics were losing year after year and just how hard Schultz tried to find a solution. Ballmer and all the other $$$$ knew Schultz had the team up for sale and they wouldn't touch it because of the "arena problem". Look at all the bad press Shultz and Bennett suffered through because of it. They all knew it was a poison issue with the general public.
Tdawg, Seattle - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:49 pm
IS it too late for a name change?? How about the OKC Surge??? New team slogan..."Hey, it worked in Iraq".....Or.."The Surge is Working"..to only be used after a win.
Rick, Yakima - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Everyone that buys tickets>>>>>> When you went up to the gate to buy tickets to see your home team play, the ticketmaster did not gurantee a victory, they did not even guarantee a good game. They gurantee you a seat in the arena for a price x amount of dollars. This is your fault for spending the money to watch the game. your an idiot if you think it should be different. there is no reason to BOO your own players. This is what everyone wanted and everyone knew that we would suck. i would love to see all of you play out there. i will stand by my team no matter what. If you have a kid and he is retarted then i guess you should be mad at him right? all of you are dumb for thinking anything different. It is business and we do not have a good team.. i promise that it wont make anything better by complaining or Booing you own fans. Next time you see your retarted kid then think about your home team and how they would feel just because that cant play basketball the way you want them too... all of you with negativity are losers...!!!!!!!!!!11
chris, Oklahoma City - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Tdawg, Key arena was part of the problem, but to what degree, does anyone really know? Clearly it needed to be upgraded to remain competitive at some point. But with billionaire owners and David Stern's egos involved logic did not seem to enter into to the whole process. What they should have done to minimize the negative PR was grant an expansion team to OKC after they had proven their ability to support a team with the Hornets. In addition to that Schultz should have brokered a deal to Ballmer with the stipulation that they would fix the outdated Key Arena issue upon taking ownership.
Steve, Danville, - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Steve, Key Arena is the reason Schultz sold the Sonics and the reason that no local buyer including Ballmer wanted to buy them. The Sonics lost money playing in the Key every year for the last decade. In the playoff year of 04-05, Wally Walker said the team didn't come close to breaking even.
Key Arena was a huge mistake that Seattle to this day refuses to acknowledge. It cost them the Sonics.
Tdawg, Seattle - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Brian in OKC, Key arena was built in 1995, the builder basically tore down 99.99 percent of the then Seattle Center Coliseum. What remained after the tearing down of the Seattle Center Coliseum were 4 small roof trusses, everything else was completely brand spanking new. When Key Arena was finished, it was billed as state of the art, won architectural awards, and was billed as state of the art by none other than David Stern as evidenced in the You Tube Video of Mitch Levy's interview with the commisioner.
Steve, Danville, - Nov 20, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Seattle should be completely ashamed of itself, Ryan..
Tdawg, Seattle - Nov 20, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Oklahoma City should be downright ashamed of itself.
Ryan - Nov 20, 2008 at 6:18 pm
It doesn't matter if PJ is the worst coach the NBA has ever had, if the players had talent, they would not be 1-11. The coaches better find some new players or make some changes soon or else they will be looking for employment as well. Oklahoma will not stand for poor performance time after time. While we might not have expected to be a play-off team in our first year, no one expected to be competing for the worst record ever in NBA history! Getting blown out by the next worst team in the league deserves boos whether they got them or not and/or leaving before the game is over. we are not using lunch money to buy tickets, this is suppose to be serious professional entertainment. If you want to hang out, drink beer, and relax go than watch the hockey games (which are competitive in their own division).
Someone kidnap CP3 after the game and offer him an incredible deal to stay! - maybe the coach along with him?
Maybe he will switch sides at half time proclaiming his new contract to play for OKC! oh well.... maybe next year.

Wow !!
I just watched the vidoe talking about the "one on one with dundermadness", and they were absolutely roasting the dunder, how they were getting booed, how badly they suck, etc., etc...betcha Clay's wife "forgets" their Christmas bonuses this year.
Make sure you guys all go and watch this video......it's about a 5-7 minute diatribe about how badly these guys suck...
PS...they predict a 6-7 games won record for the dunder this season....
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Paul is back!!! Haven't seen you for a while buddy!
Actually, are there two Pauls from Yukon?
One who sees all negative, and one who doesn't. Or, are we talking a case of bipolar Paul?
I'm confused.

As far as I see there are a lot of losers in the Sonic/Thunder debate. Seattlites who got sucker punched by a bunch of Okies and David "My Throat is Swallowing My Head" Stern, the Sonic/Thunder players who had to move from Seattle to Oklahoma of all places, and the people of Oklahoma who have the misfortune of being in Oklahoma by either no choice of their own or ignorance.
Chris, Portland - Nov 20, 2008 at 5:13 pm

How many slurpees did you give away??

Little man syndrome is eating you alive....
Tdawg, Seattle - Nov 20, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I never thought of looking on craigslist for tickets, or stub hub, but I'll bet there are plenty of season ticket holders just dying to get some of their money back they foolishly spent on this "team".
I wonder if the dunder will release figures for "repeat" season ticket sales next year? Highly unlikely as it would show that people weren't willing to fork out dough on a bunch of losers...unless they like those .083 percentages.....
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 4:37 pm
How are those Washington teams doing, uncle?
Two words....National embarrassment
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 4:12 pm
OKC, congratulations on getting a team. You'll need to be very patient, though, if you're expecting that team to win. The previous two ownership groups purposely ran it into the ground to devalue it in attempts to acquire tax levies for a stadium rebuild. It will take many years to both overcome that, and the fact that the western conference is very competitive overall. None of the pieces are in place now, as the few good players that you have now will not be there in a few years - get used to that.
The Key was one of the smallest NBA areans, which meant it was a great place to watch a game. It wasn't a dump by any means, and saying that is a sign of ignorance. When GP and Reign Man were in the house, it was earth-shatteringly loud and crazy. Seattle was one of the few teams that won finals games against MJ's Bulls...
I'll miss watching the Sonics, but I won't miss $8 beers and losing by 20, minimum. Comcast has begun to carry the Blazers up here, which is good enough for me... Portland's a great city too, and I'll be happy to travel down there for the occasional game and a few donuts at VooDoo.
Uncle, Seattle - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Sounds like Berry was on to something calling them Boomers. He just accidently added an "m" to Boo'ers.
walter, LA - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:52 pm
One year doesn't mean we didn't support the team. Its only after Bennett dismantled the team, killed the radio deal rights, banned player interviews with local media and cut off all advertising for the team. There were no billboards or advertisements for the team. Bennett made it as hard as possible for us to connect with the team.
And you've had two true sell outs. We have the current NBA record for most fans attending a single game. I dont think Oklahoma could put 70,000 into a stadium to watch the Thunder. There is already a mass exodus of tickets for all games on Stub Hub and Craigslist. After 3 weeks you are already abandoning the team. How are you even supporting them? That is like the pot calling the kettle black.
Kevin, Bothell - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Skewed news source? I pulled those attendance records from the NBA.
I don't know anyone who thought we were getting an nba team, but if it helps you get over your loss, please feel free to think that.
Brian, Oklahoma City - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:34 pm
"It's a race the Sonics are losing, at least according to numbers disclosed by the team. (Pro teams closely guard their finances even when asking the public to spend millions.) In 2004-05, the team had the sixth-best record in the NBA and a payroll below the league average. The result?
"We still were nowhere close to breaking even," said Sonics President Wally Walker."

Fake Philip, Naked bike ride in the park at 4pm. Tell the rest of the SOS bunch.
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Yeah, we did support the Sonics. Your skewed news source showed everything to the contrary though. Now how are those rose shades working out for you with a 1-11 team. We knew it'd be like this in Seattle and were ready for this. You guys magically thought you were getting a playoff team and everything would be great. This is the NBA where if you are on the bottom, you stay on the bottom.
OKC doesn't have the capital to go after big name free agents. You couldn't even afford to offer that guy from Utah more than $24M. Now if Bennett had kept Lewis and Allen and paid them up with Durant, then yes, you'd be a playoff team. But what was gotten for Lewis and Allen? Jeff Green and eventually Kyle Weaver.

Fake Paul.....Clean Up on Aisle 4
Clay Bennett, Oklahoma City - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Reading through this thread is hilarious. You can't make this kind of stuff up.
Look guy's, it's simple. Seattle didn't support the Sonics, so they moved. Life goes on. No hard feelings. Best of luck in the future. Hope all your sports teams can solve their woes and get things turned around. It makes it a lot harder to see the Sonics go belly up when all your other sports teams suck so bad.
I know the pain and bitterness of all that losing must be overwhelming(I guess I don't really know because our sports teams have always been so good)but blindly lashing out at others doesn't solve anything.
Seattle is a progressive city that gives you better options to vent. So....take all your clothes off, grab your bicycle and go for a ride in the park. You'll feel better...and so will I.
paul, yukon - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:08 pm
I agree with Debbie, Mitch, and K in their posts. I didn't really hear any booing as much as some disgusted 'ughs'. I did hear one person yell 'PJ you suck!' But I never heard anyone yell at the players. I was in section 116 about 15 rows behind the players. Last night in the 4th quarter during a timeout I yelled at the guys to keep their heads up and not get discouraged , and I know some of them heard me. I knew the Thunder wasn't going to be very good this year, and I still bought season tickets. And no, I'm not regretting it. I've been a huge basketball fan since high school, and I'm having the time of my life at these games. We will improve! Just wait until we draft BLAKE GRIFFIN!!!!!!
In the meantime, I think we should cheer for our players. You won't hear me booing them.
Brad, Oklahoma City - Nov 20, 2008 at 3:07 pm

I think you're on to something there Brent, or maybe just on something. Either way, it's a great idea, rooting for the visiting team might just enable these poor schmucks to get thru the season.
